A Bottle of Innovation–All About Bardstown Bourbon Company
Bardstown is all about invention and innovation. Opening in 2014, in the world’s capital of bourbon, Bardstown deems themselves as the “most modern and technically advanced whiskey distilleries” in the country. They now have six warehouses, studied under their master distiller, Steve.
The contents of Bardstown’s unique bottles come from their creative pairings of local bourbons together. How do they decide which bourbons should go in a bottle together? It’s a collaborative effort from everyone who works at Bardstown from their restaurant chefs, bartenders, tour guides and master distiller. Each create their own blends. Then it then goes into a march madness style bracket and the winner is bottled
We tried a wheated bourbon, similar to their origins black label, a rye similar to their fusion 8 series, and a surprise 95% rye and 5% malted barley. This will later be bottled but it has to finished in a zebra barrel first for 6 months. Staves are alternated by white oak and cherry oak. Bardstown is also working on toasting barrels with infrared light.
The highlight of our tour was the restaurant and bar. We thoroughly enjoyed their delicious cocktails that their bartenders concocted. Munching on our poutine and fried chicken sandwich, we got to try other Bardstown products that weren’t on the tour. Jordan tried their triple stave and we even took a bottle home.
